Technical Capability

Printing process
Litho and screen
Screen ruling
130-150 lpi. Under colour removal if possible. Stochastic screens may also be used
Printing inks
Fully oxidising or UV
Embossing
Shallow embossing (140g/m² upwards)
Varnishing
Machine or UV spot silk screen varnishing are both possible. For high gloss results it will be necessary to matt UV varnish before gloss UV varnishing. Good results have been obtained by spot varnishing on solid or dense tones by either method. Any varnish applied directly to unprinted areas of the sheet may cause variations in gloss levels. Use of emulsion sealers is not recommended
Hot foil blocking
For intricate foiling, trials are recommended
Creasing
Translucent does not delaminate so the usual calculations based on thickness may be inappropriate. We recommend experimentation to find the best combination of channel width and depth and creasing rule. For best results fold parallel to the grain and away from the bead, contrary to conventional papers. Do not fold in low humidity or after the paper has dried in earlier prcoesses. Grammages less than 92g/m² are not recommended for use on high-speed buckle folders. Lighter weights can be run satisfactorily ar reduced speeds. Pre-creasing is required for weights of 140g/m² and above: use a rounded creasing tool and matrix. For 200g/m² and above, we recommend two parallel creases with a gutter to form the spine of the crease. Avoid excessive pressure during folding and subsequent processes to reduce the risk of cracking. Avoid sharp scoring tools. A white crease can appear on folding or embossing
Cutting & trimming
Translucent is extremely dense, do not use a newly sharpened blade. A slightly dull but polished 23º bevel angle is ideal. Cut in small stacks (5cm max)
Binding & gluing
Aqueous based adhesives are not recommended - hot melt is preferred
Laser guaranteed
Not guaranteed, however acceptable results have been obtained on some machines. Trials are recommended. High temperature resistant fully oxidising inks for pre-printing prior to laser printing. 102g/m² and 112g/m² are the most suitable for laser printing.
Inkjet guaranteed
Not guaranteed, however acceptable results have been obtained on some machines. Trials are recommended.
Food contact
Yes, direct contact, however restrictions apply. Please contact Technical Services for advice

Technical Capability

Printing process
Litho
Screen ruling
130-150 lpi, stochastic screens may also be used. Under colour removal is recommended if possible
Printing inks
Fully oxidising
Embossing
Avoid using very sharp tools. The use of metal dies is recommended
Varnishing
Aqueous coatings are not recommended. If protection is required, consider spot UV varnish
Creasing
Flexi has improved foldability compared to standard tracing papers. Use of the following recommendations will maximise this advantage. Predominant folds should be made aprallel to the grain if possible. Do not fold in low humidity conditions or after the paper has dried in earlier prcoesses. For multiple folds, carefully use a fine tooth-perforating wheel. Both grammages are suitable for buckle and knife folding. Pre-creasing is advisiable for 180g/m² by using a rounded creasing tool and matrix. Fold away from the bead, contrary to conventional papers. Avoid sharp scoring tools.
Cutting & trimming
Translucent papers are dense and can chip a newly sharpened blade with grinding marks in the edge. Use a slightly dull but polished 23º bevel angle blade. Cut into small stacks with a maximum 5cm thickness to avoid blade damage
Binding & gluing
Can be saddle stitched/stapled (round wire preferred). Adhesive binding should be parallel to the grain. Hot melt glues are preferable - use aqueous adhesive sparingly. Wrap finished results in waterproof material. Caution: adjacent products in the finished job should have a similar moisture content
Laser guaranteed
Not guaranteed, however acceptable results can be obtained
Inkjet guaranteed
