Technical Capability

Printing process
Litho and screen
Screen ruling
133-150lpi. However, fine rulings may be used with careful ink control, including the use of under colour removal. Stochastic screenings may also be used
Printing inks
Litho - Conventional positive drying inks. Avoid press stable inks when further machine passes or processings are required. <br>Screen - UV and conventional screen in conjunction with drying ovens
Embossing
Yes, blind embossing. The corners of the die should be rounded off to avoid creases
Varnishing
Screen UV only. Ensure the sheet is sealed with an acrylic or glycol sealer beforehand. Lay a matt UV varnish just to seal the surface and then use gloss UV varnish to get the desired effect. Repeat varnishings may be required to achieve high gloss results
Sealing
Recommended when heavy ink coverage is required, if press-stable inks have been used (not recommended) or to avoid marking during further processing and handling. Pre-testing recommended to ascertain level of quality
Hot foil blocking
Yes, however the textured surface may lead to qulaity problems with intricate designs. In such cases, de-boss the image area prior to foil blocking
Film laminating
Yes, although some 'silvering' may occur. Increase laminating pressure and apply excess adhesive to help reduce silvering
Creasing
To guarantee good folding results, pre-creasing is recommended. As a mould-made paper, Arches does not have a noticeable grain direction and effective creasing can be done in either direction. A creasing rule and matrix system should also be used. Always fold into the bead.
Binding & gluing
It is possible to bond Arches sheets to themselves (duplexing) and to other materials using hot melt or acrylic type adhesives. When using spiral and comb type bindings, ensure that cutters are kept sharp. Rounded holes perform best. Arches can be saddle-stitched, section sewn or perfect bound

Accreditation

  • Produced at a mill that is certified with the ISO14001 environmental management standard
