Robert Horne announces further carbon reductions
1st December 2007
The Robert Horne Group continues to work diligently to reduce its carbon footprint as part of an ongoing commitment to the environment. The company's target is a reduction of 20% by 2010 and this will be achieved through a range of initiatives such as efficiencies in logistics, business travel and energy consumption.
The paper, board and plastics merchant is also working in partnership with key suppliers to help them maximise their energy resources, and so reduce their CO2 emissions. A particular success story is the progress which has been made with Burgo - Italian manufacturer of the hugely successful Revive 50:50 (Silk and Gloss). Burgo has reduced its CO2 emissions per tonne of paper produced (related to energy consumption) by 18% since the year 2000. These efforts are set to continue in future through the installation of a combined heat and power plant, the effect of which will be to significantly reduce emissions even further.
Tim Barker, Robert Horne's Environmental Manager comments:
"The work we have been doing with suppliers like Burgo typifies our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint. Naturally it is important that we are able to offer CarbonNeutral® products to those customers who have a specific requirement for an accredited range, but it is equally critical that we take a proactive and holistic approach to reducing the carbon emissions in all our products and across all our activities."
